A Bit More About Me
My name is Alex O'Connor and I have a 3 year old daughter who was born at home with a doula present and it was this experience that inspired me to become a doula.
Initially I trained with obstetrician Michel Odent and then with Nurturing Birth and I'm training to become a Natural Active Birth teacher to improve my skills both as a doula and to be able to provide childbirth preperation classes.
I'm registered with Doula UK and achieved Recognised Birth Doula status with them in July '06.
I'm a breastfeeding peer supporter and help to run ante natal breastfeeding workshops for my local Sure Start who were also good enough to have me as a volunteer doula while I was training and trying to get some experience.
If having me as your doula interests you we'll get together for an informal chat so you can ask whatever questions you have and see if I'm the right person for you.
Some partners worry that if there is a doula around then their role will be diminished, but this really isn't the case, a doula supports you both so that the birth experience is fulfilling for the two of you.
Whatever you decide, there's no fee for this visit apart from a cup of coffee and maybe a biscuit.
